Lot 17: Miniature Pitkin Type Flask, ribbed and swirled, 36 ribs, New England, 1783-1830. Shades of yellow and olive, tooled mouth - tubular pontil scar, ht. 3 5/8 inches. Reference: American Bottles & Flasks and Their Ancestry by Helen McKearin & Kenneth M. Wilson, similar to plate 88 - #7. Retains historic paper label fragments, front and back: “William R. Preston Apothecary, 2 Congress Block, Congress St., Portsmouth, New Hampshire”. An extremely rare miniature Pitkin flask form. Unique with the application of merchant labels. Property deaccessioned from the Suffield, Connecticut Historical Society to benefit its collections fund.
